Has illness or injury
affected your facial appearance? Were you born with a
condition that makes you look 'different'?
The producers of C4's 'Katie: My
Beautiful Face' about model Katie Piper coming to terms with severe
acid burns, are making a new documentary series about the challenges
of living with facial disfigurement.
If the way you look is having a
profound affect on your life or if you think you could inspire
others through your own experiences please get in touch.
An adult living in the UK with
Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED) or Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1)? I am a PhD
student, from the University of Bristol conducting research into the
experience of living with an inherited condition that may affect
appearance such as ED and NF1. Little is known about what it
is like living with an inherited condition that may affect
appearance. The aim of my research is to talk to people who
have firsthand experience of living with an inherited condition that
may affect appearance and the ways in which it has affected their
life. This is an area that has been overlooked by researchers
in the past, so I will be conducting a detailed series of studies in
this area.
I very much appreciate the
help and support of the people who agree to take part in the
research. So, if you are over 18, live in the UK and would be
interested in learning more about sharing your experiences with me
and being part of this new research, then please contact me either
by email: heather.brant@bristol.ac.uk or

Up for it? Well all you have to do is
complete our online Romantic Relationships Survey, which is
being conducted by the Centre for Appearance Research at the
University of the West of England.
A visible difference is the visible effect
of a skin condition, scar, burn, cleft lip/palate or other
disfigurement. We want to know about the experiences that young
people aged 13-18 with a visible difference have of developing
romantic relationships (e.g. meeting with, spending time with,
seeing, dating, or going out with someone), any concerns they may
have, what they think of current support and what support they think
would be good in the future.
It’ll only take you 15 minutes, it’s
anonymous and what you say will help develop YP Face It, an
online support programme for young people with visible differences.
So your opinion is really important to us. So to have your say and
bag yourself a £5 Play.com voucher.
Varama is delighted to announce the launch of a brand
new skin camouflage cream.
Developed by skin camouflage consultant Vanessa Davies, Varama is
unlike any other skin camouflage cream in that it does not require a
separate fixing powder. Moreover, Varama can be blended to
match any skin tone using just two tubes of cream and one colour
tint.
I am developing an inspirational
and educational documentary series for BBC3 looking at facial
reconstruction. I’d love to hear from any young people under 27 who
have gone through the process of facial injury or reconstruction and
are comfortable telling their story. We want to help and inform –
highlighting a part of medicine and personal stories to the younger
BBC3 audience who may themselves be struggling with issues of
identity and image.
